Key Stage 3

In Years 7 and 8, we promote all of the necessary skills needed to eventually take students through to GCSE and A level.

Our schemes of work cover drawing, painting, printing, ICT and 3D work and all students are encouraged to experiment, whilst learning the basics of good practice.

In Year 7, schemes of work cover

Self Image

Purpose of this Module: To develop knowledge and understanding of Colour Theory; Demonstrate skills in drawing and painting - exploring colour mixing; Introduce digital media; Explore self expression as a starting point for work; Develop sketchbook skills.

Clay Architecture

Purpose of this Module: To introduce simple processes and techniques in clay; explore architecture from around the world and from different cultures and religions; encourage spontaneous creativity through exploring ideas 3-dimensionally using clay; develop use of sketchbook.

Natural Forms - a printing-based unit

 

In Year 8, schemes of work cover:

Optical Art 

Purpose of this Module: To develop knowledge and understanding of Optical art via a design process.  Students will demonstrate skills in: drawing and measuring, creating effects with perspective, using tints and shades. They will create shapes which they will turn into 3D forms.

China

Purpose of this Module: To develop 3D skills and learn about Chinese Art and culture. To develop cross-curricular links with the Languages department. All students will exhibit their work in a viewing open to the public.

Doodle Art

Purpose of this Module:

To develop knowledge and understanding of Doodles as an art form.  Demonstrate skills in drawing and creating effects using their imagination.  Produce imagery relating to popular culture.

 

In all of these units students are expected to make links with other artists whilst showing their increased understanding in terms of how they use new influences in their work.
