For the GCSE portfolio unit, students complete two units of work:
1. Abstraction and Distortion
This unit is skills-based and is more supported and teacher-led. Students produce a piece of clay work and a canvas, and are encouraged to keep a sketch book. We look at the work of other artists.
2. I, Me, Mine
This unit allows students to build on the first unit and to develop confidence and self-expression. There is a choice of media for the final piece, including paint, clay, animation and fashion.
Exam
An open-ended theme is set by the exam board. Examples of themes are "I, Me, Mine" and "Similarities and Differences".
