Many of our students see their future working in the Construction Industry. Some leave us at the end of Year 11 to go onto specialist craftsperson courses such as bricklaying or plumbing. These can be studied at Saltash College or The City of Plymouth College.
Many who leave at this stage find themselves on a Level 1 course. Some choose to stay with us for another year and complete the BTEC Level 2 Diploma. This usually secures them a place on a higher level specialist course.
Some may choose to go onto a Level 3 course, which can lead on to more technical careers such as Surveying or Site Management.
A few of our students manage to secure Apprenticeships. We are quite often approached by local Construction businesses to see if we have any suitable students that they might offer an Apprenticeship. We are also able to help many of our sixth form students secure work placements in areas that they are keen to go into. If their timetable allows, they go to their work placement one day a week.
Many of our former students are now involved with the Construction Industry in one way or another. Several have now completed Apprenticeships or College courses and are working for a variety of firms, big and small. We still have a lot of contact with our former students and a few of them drop in to let us know how they are getting on. Most agree that the courses on offer here at Callington give a good start to anyone thinking of going into the Construction Industry.
