The Department
Our students have the opportunity to study Construction at Key Stage 4 and 5.
The courses we offer are BTEC First Certificate and BTEC First Diploma Level 2 in Construction.
A Brief History of the Department
- The subject was first introduced in September 2005.
- The BTEC First Certificate in Construction was offered to Year 10 students.
- In the first year 24 students started the course.
- In 2006 35 Year 10 students took up places.
- In 2007 we had our first Year 12 intake studying the BTEC First Diploma in Construction. 6 students enrolled.
- The new Construction Building (CN2) was completed in autumn 2008, allowing students to take part in practical lessons in all weathers.
- By 2009 the intake had increased to 50 Year 11 and 14 Year 12 students. The Department also won The Good School Guides Award for Construction.
- In 2010 the Construction students achieved a 94% Pass rate, with many gaining Distinction and Distinction* grades. These are equivalent to two grade A and A* GCSE's.
- From September 2010 we have taught the new BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Construction and the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Construction. The new course includes many more units and allows us to give more varied practical opportunities to the students.
