In Year 7 Drama is part of the Communications curriculum offering students a multi-disciplinary approach to the foundation skills of drama. Through Drama students have an opportunity to develop their creative thinking, group work and performance skills.
In Year 8 all students have an hour a week to explore issues-based topics, further developing their drama and performance skills, building on their knowledge from Year 7 and introducing new drama techniques into their work.
Drama is a popular GCSE option at the end of Year 8 with generally 2 or 3 teaching groups following the Edexcel specification. Examination results are excellent at GCSE and AS/A2 with large numbers of students chosing to study Drama in the Sixth Form.
Facilities for Drama are being improved all the time. We have three large teaching spaces which enable us to work in a practical way, incorporating lighting and sound into students experiences where possible. The College has a Creative Arts Technician who will support students and staff in their learning and be an invaluable asset to the department.
The department is fortunate to have an Advanced Skills Drama Teacher (Mr Plunkett).
Recently we have performed a number of public and coursework productions including:

There are a number of opportunites students can take advantage of from clubs to performances.
For two years we have been visited by the "Young Americans " who work with around 100 young people over three days to produce an outstanding performance for friends and family.
This year a group of students from Years 9 to 13 performed in "Too Fast " as part of the Connections project at the Theatre Royal Plymouth, and a cast of over 100 students appeared in the hugely successful school production of Grease.
