Key Stage 5

Economics is offered at the College as an AS/A2 subject available as part of the Sixth Form Curriculum.

We study what is going on around you now.  Economics is based on current issues.  The AS concentrates on how a market economy like ours should work, and what happens when it fails.

You'll concentrate on issues such as

  • "Why are house prices so high?"
  • "Can pollution be effectively controlled?"
  • "Why can't everyone get a job?"
  • "Why does the government have an inflation target, and what's it got to do with me?".

These are just a few of the key learning topics. Economists have to engage in debate over these controversial issues. This makes the subject lively and interesting, and allows you the opportunity to make your own judgements and form your own opinions.

In Year 13 you'll build on your knowledge and study Business Economics and the Global Economy. There is a special focus on world trade and globalisation, plus the issues of poverty and inequality surrounding the Developing Countries.
