We study what is going on around us now, based on current issues. We concentrate on how a market economy like ours should work, and what happens when it fails.
Each year in the Autumn Term, students have the opportunity to participate in the "Target 2.0 Interest Rate Challenge". This involves the students making a presentation to Bank of England officials explaining and justifying what they think the Bank's interest rate policy should be. The final rounds are held in London during the Spring Term.
Occasionally there are further opportunities available to Economics students, such as the 2009/10 Virtual Trading Challenge, organized by Cornwall Education Business Partnership and sponsored by Worldwide Financial Planning Ltd of Truro.
