We believe that ICT should support learning and embedding the skills, capabilities and knowledge that will encourage the continual growth and development of each individual throughout their life.
Our aim is to equip all learners with the experiences and skills of ICT that they will use in a rapidly changing technological world. Learners in our environment will be confident and independent in their use of ICT to solve problems across the curriculum.
The needs of the individual learner will shape the future of learning in Callington Community College. ICT will enable the school to provide a personalised learning experience.
The ICT department is an aspirational department that supports wholly the school vision statement.
In years 7 and 8 we are following a condensed KS3 curriculum on a rotational system. Year 7 students are taught basic skills through a combination of ICT lessons and the Communications course, whilst Year 8 students have discrete ICT lessons to further develop skills and foster independence.
In KS4, as part of the core curriculum, all students follow the Functional Skills Certificate with the majority gaining a Level 2 certificate. There is an option to study for an Award or Certificate in Digital Applications from Edexcel. All option students will complete the Award which is equivalent to one GCSE, with the majority achieving the Certificate which is equivalent to two GCSEs.
In KS5 students follow an AQA Applied ICT course.
