After GCSE courses, students can study French, German and Spanish to AS/A2 level following the AQA specification. They can also choose to study one or two languages as part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) course. This might be at Beginner level (ab initio) or Standard or Higher level.
Students will have regular contact with our Foreign Language Assistants to help develop their speaking skills and to learn more about the culture of a country where the language they are learning is spoken. All students following courses at this level are encouraged to spend time abroad and there is a variety of opportunities available - including the French Mini-Assistants Scheme, where students spend 5 - 10 days working in a French primary school and the Spanish Exchange.
Enrichment courses in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese are also on offer with the opportunity to achieve ASSET Languages qualifications.
