Course Breakdown:
During year 9 all students will attempt 2 unit exams, A (25%) and B(25%). In year 10 they will attempt unit C(50%).
Students are entered for either the foundation or higher tier. The foundation tier targets grades G-C and higher D - A*.
Each unit covers elements of the four main topic areas - Number, Algebra, Geometry & Measures, and Statistics. Unit C contains more difficult content and builds on topics covered in Units A and B.
For the first time, quality of written communication will be assessed in all new GCSE Mathematics specifications. This means students must not only show their workings but that the explanations have to be of the highest quality.
Also in common with all new GCSE Mathematics specifications, 'functional elements' of mathematics will be assessed in more detail.
At the start of year 9 all students are issued with a revision guide; this contains examples, additional exercises and answers. The revision guide is linked to our scheme of work so that as an objective is covered in class, students can consolidate the topic at home.
