Leadership Team - Linking JSLA & Outdoor Leadership Courses

Role:

  • To oversee communication and organisation of other leaders from curriculum classes
  • In charge of organising break time activities
  • To come up with ideas for sporting events and festivals
  • To make links with business & sponsorship
  • Aspirations and hero liaisons.
  • To train KS3 students as lead learners in PE lessons


Sports Media Group - Linking literacy to PE

Role:

  • To create termly sports newsletters to go home to parents
  • To liaise with the PE department about forthcoming events
  • To identify the Sports Personality of the Month
  • To take on the roles of reporters and photographers at events
  • To build a relationship with The Cornish Times in order to gain more press coverage.

Curriculum PE

  • To gain views and opinions of fellow students from KS3 and 4 and feed them back to the sports council to discuss issues and find solutions to them
  • To find out the views students have of PE at Callington through interviewing and writing questionnaires
  • To assist in developing a personalised PE curriculum that caters for all types of personalities and one that is inclusive of both gender and individual needs

Curriculum Plus (Extra-curricular Activities)

An area for everyone in the Sports Council to discuss the following:

  • What is being offered?
  • What else do students want to do?
  • How can we offer what students want?


Exam Sports Group (Usually one or two members of the sixth form)

  • To identify students in need of extra help and set up learning triangles
  • To liaise with PE theory teachers to get revision packs set up to help students revise
  • To liaise with other Sixth Form PE students to help set up break time revision sessions

 

During 2007 - 8 the Sports Council set up the following:

  • A Football tournament for KS3 Monday and Tuesday break times
  • A Move and Groove activity for KS3 students Wednesday break times
  • A GCSE revision session led by sixth formers on Wed / Thurs break times for KS4
  • A termly newsletter
  • Aspirations presentation at a Sports Presentation Evening
  • Set up a BEBO web page with specialist security system
  • Questionnaire and findings about the curriculum throughout key stages
