The day began with the Year 11s being entertained by a boys dance trio - what a start to the day! Next on the agenda was an address from Mr Lobbett who offered them some inspirational words and also some advice on forthcoming exams and revision.
The students were then treated to a fabulous talk from former Callington student Commander Adrian Pierce of the Royal Navy who enthralled them with a variety of anecdotes and life experiences from his time at college and the years following. The students were most impressed with the possibilities that could come their way in the future.
The first half of the assembly was a time for the whole year to receive their certificates and their Records of Achievement. Students and staff also had the pleasure of listening to a number of different musical performances by an unbelievable array of their fellow students. There was also an inspirational poetry reading by Emma Berry.
All the year then enjoyed a buffet and a chat with close friends: in true Callington style the ladies of the year collected their food first followed by the gentlemen.
The second half was a completely different feel - staff and students alike enjoyed a number of different video compilations and further student performances. There were also tutor awards and departmental awards for all to celebrate. The time seemed to fly by and after a final performance of Moulin Rouge by the Year 11 Rock Band, the Year left to prepare for the Ball later at St Mellion.
At around 6.30 pm the Year began to arrive in style as always (in spite of the horrible weather) there were the fancy cars both old and new, an Ice cream van, a number of tractors, a Ferrari, a wheelie bin, a Fire truck or two, Knights with coconuts... to name just a few! The Year was met by Mr Aird and Mrs Roberts and a host of tutors and staff that literally had to hold the crowd of well-wishers back to allow the students to enter the venue.
The evening was a sheer delight for students and staff alike. The Year 11s looked brilliant and behaved in a stunning fashion throughout the day and evening. There was a formal meal, formal speeches from Head of Year and from Year 11 students Billy Southcott and Carla Coton. Mr Hazeldine led the Formal dances and had the whole place jumping - even staff joined in; those hours of practice obviously paid off! The evening was then danced and laughed away and all left by Midnight to enjoy celebrations with close friends at after-parties.
We wish all Year 11 every success in their forthcoming examinations and for their chosen career paths.
