Like all councils, reduced Government funding means we have to make budget savings. In Cornwall's case this is £170m over the next four years. The change in opening hours will help us cut our costs while keeping our local libraries. Callington has fared better than most, as only 2.5 hours a week are being lost.
You will also note that while we have a closed day on Thursday, we will not close at lunchtime on the other days and the Saturday hours have moved on by half an hour.
Our Good Companions group will now meet on Wednesday afternoons from 2.00 p.m. If you are retired or live alone come along for a cuppa and a chat.
Libraries will be closed for the Bank Holidays of Friday 22nd April, Monday 25th April and Friday 29th April. (Open as normal on Easter Saturday, 23rd April)
To celebrate the new hours, Callington Library invites you to bring your lunch to the library on Monday 18th, Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th April and see what we have to offer - it is not just books! In addition on Wednesday 20th April there will be an Easter egg treasure hunt for children under 7 years of age from 12 noon to 1.00 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided free of charge on all three days.
