All Secondary Schools in South East Cornwall were involved in the competition. The day kicked off with Callington Taiko drummers opening the event in a grand opening ceremony which then saw dancers from each the five secondary schools involved performing a dance from each of the five continents of the world. As this is an Olympic year organisers of the games were keen to embrace the ethos of the Olympic Games and ensure there was cultural element to the games.
Competitions then took place in Tennis, Girls Football, Handball, Fencing, Table Tennis, Volleyball and Rowing. The focus of the Games is to celebrate local youth sport, citizenship and leadership. Leaders and officials from each of the schools help to organise and officiated during the games.
Michelle Roberts, Development Manager for ARENA said "The games were a fantastic opportunity to celebrate youth sport in South East Cornwall and it was great to include a cultural dimension to the games with an official opening and closing ceremony. The competition was of a high standard and the young leaders and officials were exemplary."
Winning teams in Girls football Year 9 and 10 were Liskeard, with Saltash girls winning the Year 7 and 8 Competition. Callington won the Handball and Looe demonstrated their creative skills winning the fencing competition. The Table Tennis competition was won by Looe and Looe School also won the indoor rowing event. Finally Callington won the singles tennis competition with James Kneebone winning the Year9/10 event and Harry Brewerton winning the year7/8 title. The games were closed with a dance piece performed by girls from all 5 secondary schools choreographed by Sam Dukes. Medals were presented to all winning teams
Fair Play nominations were made in each of the sports and the overall winning school was Liskeard School who were presented with an award, highlighting the fair play aspect of the games and emphasising the importance of this area to all those involved.
