The C.A.T.S. (Community Action Through Sport) awards were hosted by Callington Community College and Saltash.net School and supported by the Police, Youth Cornwall, Extended Services and a variety of other local organisations.
Over 120 young people received an award ranging from a Level 1 award which is the first step to volunteering to Level 4 which was achieved by two students from Saltash.net. The levels are awarded according to the level of responsibility and involvement by the young person.
C.A.T.S Volunteer of the Year Award 2009 was awarded to Natalie Rayner who has completed over 540 hours in the last year for the Air Cadets alone. Natalie has also helped at Derriford Hospital, supported a local netball club and is Headgirl at Saltash.net school.
Students from Callington received awards ranging from Level 1 to Level 3. These included a group of girls who were involved in the Feeling Good Looking Good project which helped to promote heath active lifestyles with local primary schools. Another group of students were involved in a graffiti project helping to improve the appearance of the local youth centre.
Director of Community Sport at Callington Community College, Michelle Roberts stated "The awards evening was an outstanding success and provided the C.A.T.S committee with the opportunity to let the local community know what amazing young people we have volunteering and supporting with a whole range of local projects and organisations, and to recognise and celebrate their achievements".
