Friday Night Project - A Big Hit

The Project is run as part of the Callington and Saltash C.A.T.S (Community Action Awarded Through Sport) programme, is multi-agency charity based in Callington which aims to provide positive activities for young people.

The Friday Night Project has been a big success since it's launch in November 2010.

A band night was held in November which was opened by Karma, the college dance group, who demonstrated some impressive moves.  This was then followed by ‘Six is Out' a local band who were backed by Jamie Jacketts with his band ‘Late November'.

Callington's X factor took place in December which was a major hit. Ten finalists took part in this prestigious event and local X factor finalist Amy Hudsbeth was in attendance.  The event was won by Carys Goodright who was impressive and definitely with Charlie Scoble as runner up. Charlie was amazing playing the ukelele and the guitar.

At the end of January the Friday Night project launched the café nights. These evenings are open to all year groups. The café has an LCD screen, Wii sports kindly donated by Callington Lions, and has recently purchased an iPad which was supported by Callington Tescos.

The latest Café night was a Comic Relief Quiz in March 2011, where over 20 young people battled it out with various different rounds including a music round. The quiz was won by Bradley Aquilino-Kent.

A Valentine's Party was held in February which was a popular event attended by over 200 young people, Laurie Watts was the DJ, with his mobile disco.

Laurie Watts will return for the next event which is a Dance Party, this will be held on Friday 8th April, and is open to students in years 7,8 and 9.  Tickets are on sale now.
