The college has been working hard to prepare for the International Baccalaureate (IB) since 2007. Students, staff, governors and parents were all involved in the process of authorisation. Two intensive days of interviews and observations were undertaken by visitors from the IB Organisation to ensure that the college was fully prepared.
Fourteen members of the college's staff have received high quality international training to deliver a range of subjects to the prospective cohort of sixth form students.
Debs Kemp, the IB Coordinator, said, "We have a really strong team of teachers ready to deliver this programme. It's a very exciting new development for the college."
The International Baccalaureate is a two year programme. This curriculum package requires students to study six subjects in addition to three core elements that encourage independent learning and involvement in their creative and volunteering activities.
Students opting for the IB will be encouraged to forge international links with other IB schools, participate in a range of international trips and develop a strong understanding of their place in the world and what they can contribute as a world citizen.
There will be huge benefits to the college. We will be a part of the IB international community and have access to a range of international teaching and learning materials. Studying the IB will enable these students to take this international qualification to many universities in the world.
On Monday 10th November Callington Community College will be holding our Sixth Form Open Evening at 7.00pm. There will be a stand for the IB for those interested in finding out more about this qualification.
