Making Primary Languages Our Business

Students from Callington, Liskeard, Looe and Launceston gather for a fun languages day

On Tuesday February 9th 2010, Callington Community College hosted  the "Making Primary Languages our Business" event,  funded by "Links into Languages" as part of a consortium of schools across Cornwall, Devon and Plymouth

This fun one-day event gathered students together to create language teaching resources for Key Stage 2 pupils. The project involved using a variety of languages (Spanish, French, German and Chinese) and gave the students the opportunity to use languages in a realistic and useful situation. The students created designs for games, songs, software and story-telling resources, taking into consideration appropriate techniques for Key Stage 2 language teaching.  Primary and Secondary school teachers supported the development of the ideas, together with Key Stage 5 students, trainee teachers and language assistants.

It was a brilliant day full of brilliant ideas that will subsequently be developed in curriculum time with the chance of pupils visiting partner primaries to trial their own resources.
