May Ball 2011

On Friday May 13th, Year 11 celebrated the end of their compulsory education.  To mark the event the traditional Leavers' Assembly and Ball were held.

The Leavers' Assembly was a fabulous celebration of our students' achievements.  Many students won awards which recognised achievements in all subject areas and there were also awards nominated by the students themselves, some serious and some more lighthearted.

The Leavers' Ball, which was attended by 214 students and all fourteen Year 11 tutors, was a wonderful evening for everyone and was held at St Mellion Country Club.   The top arrivals of the night have to go to a very large speed boat with two girls sipping champagne;  a TARDIS with Becky inside (made by her father); three boys driving rather large tractors - Sam, Jamie and Will have all recently passed their tests; and Jacob on a unicycle and Izzy on stilts.

Of course all students looked fantastic in a variety of dresses and suits.  The sit-down meal was enjoyed by all, and was followed by speeches from two students, Izzy Tulloch and Matthew Sherwood.  The guest speaker was Jo Davies who has rowed across the Atlantic with three other women.  This was followed by social dancing led by the PE staff - the students had spent their last few PE lessons learning the dances.  Then there was a DJ and music for the remainder of the evening.  This was provided by Phoenix Knights Entertainment and the DJ was Kevin Lawrence who is also a teacher at the college and whose son was also present.

Mr Neil Moore has been Head of Year for three of the five years that these youngsters have been at the College, Years 7, 8 and 11.  In Year 9, Miss Ward, who is now living in Australia but sent the youngsters an e-mail wishing them good luck, was their Head of Year.  Miss Gardiner, who left the College last year but was present at the ball, was Head of Year in Year 10.

We would like to wish Year 11 good luck for the future, a very exciting time for students - the future awaits.   Overall the atmosphere was very positive and everyone enjoyed themselves because the students had a great time. They were a credit to the college and more importantly, themselves.

We will miss you, Year 11!  Good luck with your examinations.
