On Friday 3rd February, about 160 Key Stage 2 pupils from seven local primary schools (Calstock, Gunnislake, Harrowbarrow, St Dominic, St Mellion, Stoke Climsland and Upton Cross) came to Callington Community College for a day of fun languages activities.
All pupils took part in four different workshops in a variety of languages:
The workshops were run by secondary Modern Foreign Languages trainee teachers from the Learning Institute and Marjon's together with two Chinese teachers, who work at the college each Friday as part of the Peninsula Group Confucius Classroom, and Year 12 students from the college. The day was organised by Karen Sully and Sue Masters from the Languages Department.
Activities included signing and singing "I can sign a rainbow", trying out different Chinese costumes traditionally worn to celebrate Chinese New Year, learning colours and fruits in Spanish and parts of the body in Italian.
The day finished with a short assembly in the Hall where pupils shared some of the songs and activities they had learnt. Pupils and their teachers all enjoyed learning something new and had the opportunity to work with children from other local schools.
