The Young Americans visit again

For the second year running Callington Community College hosted The Young Americans, a performing Arts company consisting of 46 students skilled in singing, dancing and performing

They worked for three days with 140 students from Callington Community College and 51 students from six primary schools, a total of 191 students aged 8 to 18.

Three days of workshops and rehearsals culminated in two full scale performances to packed audiences.

Throughout the workshops the students were encouraged to build their confidence and work together to develop their performance skills.  Evaluations of the experience really showed how much students had grown from this experience and how much their confidence had grown in only a few days.

"It has taught me to believe in myself"

Debs Kemp, Director of Student Voice at the college said, "This has been a really positive project in so many ways, touching the lives of the whole school community and well worth the time in getting it up and running".

The Young Americans were hosted by 23 local families who did an invaluable job of feeding and transporting them to the college and they very much enjoyed the cultural exchange.  One homestay family said "these people actually reminded us what fun life could be".

The Young Americans are continuing their tour around Britain and it is hoped that they will return to Callington next year.
