Callington Community College 'A' Team was one of twenty teams introduced to the world of stock market trading at a seminar last October, and then given a ‘virtual' £100,000 to invest with the aim of growing it as much as possible. By the close of the competition in Mid-March, the Callington students had amassed a fortune of £158,236.19! This was the largest gain made by any team in the history of the competition! During this period, the well known ‘FTSE 100' index rose by just 9%, so the scale of our student's achievement is clear to see.
Worldwide Financial Planning Managing Director Mr. Peter McGahan said, "They traded perfectly, coming in and out of the market at just the right time. Their performance was outstanding. These guys traded like pros"
The team was then presented with fantastic prizes by Mr. McGahan - £50 in cash for each of the six team members, plus a day out in the City of London, including a visit to the Bank of England, with flights from Newquay to London City airport included!
College Economics teacher Mr. Mark Rumson said "It's been a brilliant learning experience for our students, and I've been really impressed with their team work and the amount of research they carried out. Special thanks go to Peter McGahan and Kate Whetter of Cornwall Education Business Partnership for sponsoring and organizing the competition."
