The day began with the Year 11 being addressed by the Principal, Mr Gary Lobbett who offered them advice on forthcoming exams and revision and by the outside speaker Mr Neil Gallacher (Business and Political Correspondent for BBC Spotlight) who entertained the year with a variety of stories as well as giving some tips for successful careers.
The first half of the assembly was a time for the whole year to receive their certificates and their Record of Achievements and a time to listen to music performed by students and staff as well as the poetry reading by Sophie "The Road Less Travelled" by Robert Frost.
All the year then enjoyed a buffet and a chat with close friends: in true Callington style the ladies of the year collected their food first followed by the gentlemen.
The second half was a completely different feel - staff helped move the hall around so all could view with comfort the musical feast - singers, guitar players and rock groups! In-between the fabulous music a variety of awards were given to students from Subject departments and tutors - some serious and some very amusing! One of the highlights of the second half was the music video of staff - this caused many of the year to laugh out loud as well as a few tears (joy we hope!) After a brilliant finale of The Final Countdown, the Year left to prepare for the Ball later at St. Mellion.
At around 6.30pm the Year began to arrive in style as always there were the fancy cars both old and new, a double decker bus, a classic tractor, a gathering of bikers... to name just a few! The year was met by Mrs Penny Bagshaw and Mrs Trudi Mitchell (Head of Year and Assistant to Year 11) who literally had to hold the crowd of well-wishers back to allow the students to enter the venue.
Staff who attended included tutors and all Heads of Year as well as the Director for Pastoral Care.
The evening was a sheer delight for students and staff alike. The Year 11 students looked brilliant and acted accordingly. There was a formal meal, formal speeches from Head of Year (Mrs Penny Bagshaw) and from Year 11 students Regan and Daisy. Mr Lee Hazeldine led the Formal dances - even staff joined in but the students knew the steps! The evening was then danced and laughed away and all left by Midnight to enjoy celebrations with close friends at after parties.
We wish all Year 11 ever success in their forthcoming exams and for their chosen career paths.
