The Café is being run as part of the Callington and Saltash C.A.T.S (Community Action Awarded Through Sport) programme which is multi-agency charity based in the town of Callington which aims to provide positive activities for young people. C.A.T.S UK is now a national charity which was originally founded in Bude in 2005.
The Friday Night Project based in Callington will this week open its Café. The Café, which is based in Callington Town Hall, is aimed at young people in the town aged 12 - 17. It will open on Friday 28th January from 7.00 p.m. - 9.00 p.m.
The café will provide a safe place to go on a Friday night and will give young people the opportunity to gain access to the internet, provide drinks and refreshments. Wii Sports and other games consoles will also be available.
The Friday Night project Committee have been successful in obtaining funding for some new equipment for the café including new leather sofas and a 42inch plasma television. The committee have also been supported by the Callington Tesco who will present a cheque on the evening for the purchase of a new laptop. This will be presented by Alan Woolacombe, the Tesco Community Champion, who is fully supportive of the café.
The Café will be run by young people who will be involved in the planning, organising and effective running of the café. They will consult with their peers on how future events are delivered.
Callington Town Council have provided free use of the Café, which will open on two Fridays a month with the Friday Night Project running an event once a month.
The next event is a Valentines Party planned for Friday 11th February for young people aged 11 - 14 (Years 7 - 9) this will take place in the Town Hall form 7.30 p.m. - 9.30 p.m.
