The Governing Body

Callington Community College, as a Foundation School, operates independently of the local authority, with the College Governors being the employer and owning the land and buildings.

The role of the Governors is to provide a strategic view for the college, to ensure accountability and to be a critical friend to the college.

The Governors set and agree frameworks within which the college operates.   The Headteacher and other professionals manage the day-to-day running of the college.

The Governors provide the Headteacher and staff with support, advice and information, drawing on members' knowledge and experience.  In these ways the Governors act in the role of critical friend.

The Governing Body has the responsibility of ensuring good quality education at the college; therefore the Governors examine all proposals from the Headteacher and Senior Management Team, adding suggestions and targets and considering the professional roles of all staff.

The Governors are mindful that they answer to the parents and community for the College's overall performance.  The Governing Body is drawn from a set ratio of members, where parents are the predominant number, other members are staff, the Headteacher, Community, business and local authority members.  At Callington this provides fourteen Governors.  The Governing Body meets monthly.  The College Senior Management Team attend these meetings and Governor representatives attend SMT meetings.  This gives transparency and mutual understanding in the strategic decision making process.

To help students, staff and parents understand how the college operates there are a range of policies which have been produced and approved by the Governors and SMT.  Our Policies are available to download in the Parents section of the website, under Other Information.

Anyone wishing to contact the Governors of Callington Community College should use the Contact Form, marking your message clearly for the attention of the Governors.
