A Memorandum of Understanding was signed in China between the 2 schools in May 2007.
A group of staff and students took part in the British Council Immersion Course in July 2007 in Yunnan Province and met staff and students from our partner school. Our Chinese Languages Assistant for 2007/08 came from our partner school. International Links Co-ordinator visited the school in March 2008, with a view to setting up reciprocal visits and joint projects.
Since then a number of exchanges have taken place. We have welcomed visitors from China to our school, and in 2009 our Head Teacher Mr Gary Lobbet visited China.
Callington Community College is a member of the SSAT (Specialist Schools and Academies Trust) Peninsula Group Confucius Classroom, a group of four schools in the Plymouth area. In 2010 they celebrated the Chinese New Year in style at Home Park in Plymouth, where 160 students enjoyed cultural performances as well as hands-on experience of Kung Fu, Tai Chi, making Chinese tea and acting as a dancing lion at workshops throughout the day. Mandarin Chinese is taught at the College alongside French and Spanish.
