In 2006, Callington College was selected to be part of the first cohort of established study support providers. In October 2009, the award was renewed at Advanced level.
Study Support is the term used by the DCSF to describe the full range of learning activities which pupils engage in voluntarily out of lesson time with the aim of increasing motivation, raising self esteem and above all raising achievement. The term encompasses homework clubs, revision sessions and booster classes but also includes the artistic, sporting activities and hobby clubs which have traditionally been called extra-curricular activities or enrichment.
The Quality in Study Support Recognition Scheme promotes quality in study support. It provides a framework and an oucome for institutional self-evaluation and the development of key staff as "reflective practitioners".
In 2005 the Art Department and Music Department played an active role in obtaining Artsmark Gold status. The Artsmark Gold is a national award scheme managed by the Arts Council of England that recognises schools with a high level of provision in the arts.
