As an IB school we are now part of an international community that shares a common philosophy - a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education. The IB Diploma is a well established qualification that is recognised and respected throughout the world.

Those who wish to specialise in a particular subject area may well choose to stay with A Levels, but there will be others who would like to keep a broader range of subjects through the Sixth Form and the IB Diploma will appeal to them

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme is a challenging two-year curriculum aimed at students aged 16 to 19. It leads to a qualification that is widely recognized by the world's leading universities.

The International Baccalaureate Programme prepares students for university and encourages them to:

  • Ask challenging questions
  • Learn how to learn
  • Develop a strong sense of their own identity and culture
  • Develop the ability to communicate with and understand people from other countries and cultures.

At the foot of this page you can download a Powerpoint presentation which was delivered to parents at a recent open evening.

We will continue to offer A levels along side the IB and anticipate that the majority of students will continue to take A Levels. The IB Diploma and A Levels are academically rigorous, internationally recognised and valued by universities and employers. Both require motivation, commitment and intellectual curiosity.

Neither is inherently more or less difficult than the other; nor is one or the other more suited to strong or weak pupils. They are fundamentally different forms of education and are suited to different individuals for different reasons.
