Callington's very own STEM Club has been busy during the Autumn Term.
The Club, which consists of a keen and enthusiastic bunch of year 7 and 8 students, has been working on a Flight Project. The students have been investigating
(including the construction of a BMFA model plane and flight test)
The club has enabled the students to learn about the various factors effecting flight and how to overcome them.
In addition to project work the group carry out a variety of practicals to improve students' confidence and skills with equipment and techniques e.g. a firework practical during the week of November 5th to find out how fireworks get their colour!
We are now starting a new project on the Chemistry Of Food to investigate flavours, temperatures, enzymes and processing.
In future projects we hope to investigate cleaning (!) where we will look at products, solve problems and link to environmental issues.
Through project work we hope to be able to nominate students for the British Science Association CREST awards (read more here), however the club's main aim is to link in with other departments and encourage cross curricular links.
STEM Club takes place on a Thursday from 3:15 to 4:30pm
